PHOTO ESSAY: LVCHS 20th Birthday Party, Homecoming, and the First Annual LVCHS Alumni Soccer Game

LVCHS turned 20 years old this year, so we celebrated with a cake and a party!

Jesse Thompson, '03, Taylor Thompson, '07, and their friend, Seth, provided original live music for the event.

Alumni, parents, faculty, and current students enjoyed hot dogs and fellowship. It was good catching up with some old friends and making some new ones.

Teachers and faculty members were honored on this day as well. Awards were given for 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of service. Coach Sackey is here receiving his 10 Year Service Award (though he has worked at the high school for 13 years).

Mr. Crush has been with the high school since the beginning. He and his daughter, Helen, proudly display his certificate for 20 years of service.

The alumni were given a chance to talk about their time at LVCHS and to share how LVCHS helped prepare them for life. Jon Johnson, ’05 started off the proceedings.

JJ Meyer, ’04 also shared. Earlier, his mom was honored posthumously for her 6 years of service to the high school by receiving the 5 Year Service Award. Mrs. Meyer was tragically killed in a car accident in February 2007

After the alumni testimonies, Mr. Crush and Jeff Frei, ’03 reenacted their performance from the talent show at the 2003 Retreat. It showed impressive memories on their part, and their singing wasn’t too bad either!

The highlight of the day was the alumni soccer game. Coach Sackey and Mr. Brennan joined members from the current guys’ soccer team to face the alumni in an 8-on-8, 60 minute soccer match. Just as in the days of old there was a large crowd watching the affair, and, fittingly, the alumni won 4-1.

Coach Sackey would not let the girls’ soccer team join in the game since they were preparing for their run into districts, so co-captain Britt Troyer, ’04 and a number of other players watched from the sideline. Co-captain Kim McKeever, ’04 was designated the ref for the alumni game, though even she admitted she was more timekeeper than ref.
